Naturally, there were plenty of glamorous get-ups on display at the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards on Sunday (May 12), but there's no dispute about who was best dressed.

This Country star Daisy May Cooper absolutely stole the show when she rocked up to the red carpet wearing a classy bin bag dress, made for her by her mum and her friends.

But the best thing about her polyethylene frock, complete with attached litter, tin can handbag and a bin lid hat, was that she donated the money she would have spent on a 'normal dress' to her local food bank.

Speaking to ITV on the red carpet about her daring look, she said: "I wanted people to say, 'Oh what are you wearing? Gucci?' No, just bin bags."

Asked if she designed it herself, she replied: "No, my mum did with her two friends Viv and Sharon, but I decided instead of wearing a normal dress, I'd donate what I would have spent to charity and wear bin bags. There is a reason behind it."

Her dress and bold statement received praise on social media, with Dan Wootton tweeting: "Nominee Daisy May Cooper has the best BAFTA outfit EVER – made by her mother out of bin bags. She donated what she would have spent on a posh frock to her local food bank."

Meanwhile, BAFTA's official Twitter account wrote: "Who are you wearing this evening? "A sixteen litre bin bag…" A statement arrival from Female Performance in a Comedy Programme nominee Daisy May Cooper."
