Olivia Colman stole the show at the Oscars, giving an emotional and downright funny acceptance speech after winning the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Olivia won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in The Favourite, and when her name was called she was clearly in shock.

After receiving two very big kisses from her husband Ed and her The Favourite co-star Emma Stone, Olivia made her way to the stage in a state of bewilderment.

“This is hilarious, I’ve got an Oscar,” Olivia said as she took to the mic.

Taking a moment to recognise her co-nominee, she said:

“Glenn Close, you’ve been my idol for so long and this is not how I wanted it to be. I think you’re amazing,” as the audience laughed.

The star became emotional as she thanked her family.

“My mum and my dad,” she said, fighting back tears, “you know.

“And my kids who are at home and watching.”

She went on to talk to the next generation of Best Actresses.

“Any little girl who’s practicing your speech, you never know. I used to work as a cleaner, I loved that job, I spent a lot of time imagining.”

She concluded by thanking her husband “best friend and biggest supporter” Ed as she received a standing ovation.
