Call The Midwife season 8 is now in full swing and with the sixth episode of the series on the way this weekend we’re finally getting more of a glimpse into the family life of Nurse Valerie Dyer, played by Jennifer Kirby.
Preview pictures for this week’s episode show Valerie with her grandmother, Elsie, played by EastEnders star Ann Mitchell.
Mitchell has featured in the popular soap sporadically since 2011, playing Tanya Branning’s formidable mum Cora Cross.
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, Kirby said of her new on-screen grandma:
"She's amazing in it. No acting required, when I met her, I thought she was the kindest, nicest person and she's a wonderful actor."
Elsewhere in the upcoming episode, Miriam Margolyes’ Mother Superior is in Poplar.
Dr. Turner and Shelagh look to be struggling – could this be because they’re having to facilitate May’s move from their foster care to a permanent adoptive family?
Nurse Lucille and her new love interest, Cyril, seem to be getting closer – good news for fans of the pair’s fledgling romance.
And of course, there’ll be plenty more babies.
Call The Midwife airs this Sunday at 8pm on BBC One.
