If you’re totally hooked on BBC One’s The Cry, you’re not alone. The series, starring Jenna Coleman and Ewen Leslie, is the BBC’s second biggest drama launch of 2018, only being pipped to the post by Bodyguard.

What you might not know is that the TV series is based on a novel by Australian author Helen FitzGerald. Fans of The Cry will be pleased to hear another of FitzGerald's books is coming to our screens by the looks of it.

The production company behind The Cry on BBC One (Synchronicity Films) has bought the rights to adapt another of FitzGerald’s novels for TV, according to Deadline.

What to read next

Here’s the catch – the novel in question, called Australia Day, hasn’t been written yet.

FitzGerald is still working on it but here’s what we know so far.

According to Deadline, the book is set to be released in 2020 and it’s a disaster story set in a small town.

“The Broadchurch-style story is described as a domestic disaster noir and explores small-town secrets in an action-packed thriller format that features a devastating bush fire and its impact on a community,” reports say.

If the book isn’t being released until 2020, we may have a while to wait for the TV version but still, this is exciting news.

The Cry concludes Sunday 21 October at 9pm on BBC One.
