Fashion designer turned interior design icon Matthew Williamson has unveiled his new collaboration with the flooring specialists Ruggable. At a star-studded launch party held in Central London to celebrate the rug collection, guests included Cat Deeley, Emma Willis and Alan Carr among many others. GH’s Homes and Gardens Editor James Cunningham was invited along to see the collection first-hand.
From a wave-design runner to a classic kilim-style rectangular rug, Matthew has created six rug designs with his characteristic flora and flora detailing. The collection was inspired by the designer’s love of travel as well as ‘the decadent magic of nature’. There are also circular designs, including in a vibrant yellow sun-inspired motif, that are ideal for underneath a dining table.
The American brand Ruggable chose to partner with Matthew for their first UK collaboration. They are best known for their machine-washable rugs (brilliant for busy households and those with pets) and the collection blends beauty and practicality perfectly. Each of the six rugs are stain-resistant, can be machine-washed and are available in various shapes, sizes and textures.
“This collection is inspired by my home in Mallorca which gives me a feeling of wanderlust every time I visit,” explains Matthew. “It’s a beautiful space characterised by rich colours and is full of touches from the outside world. We worked hard to bring through these influences in the designs so that each piece in the collection adds a vibrant, natural feel to any space it is used in, but without compromising on the utility we all need in everyday life.”
