Situated somewhere in between blackcurrant and aubergine, ‘Cinnamon Slate’ has just been announced as Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year 2025. Described by the paint brand as ‘a delicate mix of heathered plum and velvety brown’, it is a nuanced choice for your palette as, even though its liveable, it’s a moody enough hue to still feel like you’re making a statement in your space.

Although it is pleasingly rich, the shade is a welcome step away from the how-dark-can-you-go colours seen all over Pinterest boards and Instagram feeds recently. Speaking to GH, Benjamin Moore’s Helen Shaw explains that the colour is a versatile choice. “It’s the perfect vehicle to find your colour confidence,” she says. “It gives presence without being overbearing.”

"The shade has hints of grey, which will be emphasised in lighter spaces"

Cinnamon Slate is the jewel in the crown of a newly curated collection of ten colours which also includes Rosepine, a complex shade of sage green, Tissue Pink, a delicate blush tint, and Paris Rain, a stoney neutral. The paints have been designed to work well together and, helpfully, the palette (simply named ‘Colour Trends 2025’) takes a lot of the guesswork away from the art of combining different shades in your space.

Like all other paint colours, Cinnamon Slate will look and feel differently depending on the amount of light your space gets and whether you’re in it in the morning, afternoon or evening. “The colour has a really unique interplay with light,” says Shaw. “In some rooms and at some times of day, it looks more brown and in others more purple.” The shade has hints of grey, which are emphasised in lighter spaces, and burgundy, which come out in darker spaces.
