The Queen’s florists give a Christmas wreath tutorial

The Queen’s florists have shared their own step-by-step guide on how to create a DIY Christmas wreath this festive season.

Appearing on the official Royal Instagram account, Her Majesty’s florists put together a video tutorial demonstrating exactly how the Queen’s traditional Christmas wreaths are created.

A metal base is first covered in a cushioning of moss before small bunches of leaves such as pine, holly and ivy are gathered together and placed around the edges. Once overlapped all the way round and secured with wire, it’s time to add decorations.

The florists added a combination of pine cones, cinnamon sticks and slices of dried fruit to complete the look. And of course, no festive wreath is complete without a perfectly tied red bow as the cherry on top.

A simple piece of string can then be used to hang the wreath on your front door to welcome your family and friends into your home this Christmas.

In a caption alongside the video, the florists explained a little about the royal history of festive decorations, including the iconic Christmas tree.

“Christmas trees were introduced to Britain in the late 18th century by Queen Charlotte, consort of George III,” the post explained, by going onto to add, “But they’re not the only way to bring a touch of nature to your home’s Christmas decorations The Royal Household florists are pleased to share their method for creating a traditional Christmas door wreath.”
