11 room sprays that'll make your home smell so good, you'll never want to leave

And you'll invite people over on purpose, just so they can experience how great your house smells, too.

By

Room sprays are the perfect way to inject some beautiful and instant fragrance into your home and are a great option for a scent refresh (cooked a smelly fish? these will do the trick). Think of these as a perfume for your home — with a quick spritz, you can enhance your surroundings and mood instantly.

And many home fragrance brands offer room sprays in the same blends as their candles, diffusers and perfumes, so you can give your space a mini boost of your favourite scent whenever you like.

Why use room sprays?

Room sprays are a quick and easy way to get your home smelling crisp and clean. “When a room has been closed off for a while, or before company arrives, two or three spritzes will create an immediate ambience without overpowering the space,” says Suzi Samaddar, Room Styling Expert at furn.

They also allow you to rotate different fragrances depending on the occasion. “Lighter citrus and floral notes lend themselves to daytime entertaining, while spicy and woody scents set the scene for romantic nights in,” Suzi adds.

Are room sprays better than diffusers? What's the difference?

One is not better than the other — they work differently. Diffusers, which use wooden reeds soaked in essential oils to permeate a room, deliver a continuous fragrance. “They tend to work best in larger spaces with good air circulation, allowing the scent to have a long-lasting effect,” says Suzi.

On the other hand, room sprays work to give the area a quick boost and you can use as much or as little as you like. You can also switch up the fragrance more easily than you can with a diffuser.

Can room spray be used as perfume?

It’s not a good idea to use a room spray as perfume. The chemical makeup and higher alcohol content of home fragrance mean that it’s not recommended for personal use — we would recommend washing your hands if you spill any diffuser liquid or room spray on yourself. Equally, perfume is designed to cling to the skin and scent your immediate surroundings, so it’s not the best option to use in your living room either!
