The best linen bedding sets for cool nights, tried and tested
And they look better un-ironed!

Nothing beats that feeling of slipping into fresh sheets. But which is the best bedding to buy? Some people love cotton, but if you're after something chic, casually creased and butter soft, the best linen bedding is a dream to snuggle up with.
And it’s as substantial as it is stylish; linen bedding is naturally breathable while feeling cosy, making it a great year-round option that should suit both hot and cold sleepers.
It doesn’t come cheap though, so to find the sets that tick all our boxes, we put them to the test at the Good Housekeeping Institute. Over 100 people tried them out for us – find their best buys, alongside some of our shopping editor’s favourites, below.

Not sure if linen is for you? We've also got the best cooling bedding for anyone who runs hot at night.
What is linen and what are the benefits?
Linen comes from the flax plant, which is grown largely in Europe. It’s trickier to harvest and spin than cotton, which is why it’s often more expensive – check out our roundup of the top Egyptian cotton bedding if you're looking to compare prices. But it also uses less water to grow (and is biodegradable), so it's considered more environmentally friendly. And the fibre is quite durable, so you should get great value over time.
Linen is also naturally anti-microbial, which should reduce the risk of bacteria growth and makes it well-suited to allergy sufferers. It’s a great buy for hot sleepers too; its loose weave makes it breathable, allowing air to easily flow throughout the textile, keeping your bed at a cooler temperature. It wicks away moisture, too. So, with warmer days on the way, there's never been a better time to treat yourself.
How do you care for linen?
Linen tends to get softer the more you wash it, but this doesn’t mean you need to wash it more than normal. Our household advice editor recommends cleaning bedding at least every two weeks to keep it looking and smelling fresh.
Most linen can go in a normal wash cycle (and indeed, we test them in the Good Housekeeping Institute's best washing machines to check this), but always consult the manufacturer's guidance for the sheets you choose before popping them in the wash to make sure you’re treating them with the care they deserve.
And, great news, you can skip the ironing – their creased look is all part of the charm!
