Dulux has announced its 2024 colour of the year as 'Sweet Embrace', which is a colour chosen by Dulux's expert trend forecasters to represents the mood of the world.
Sweet Embrace is described by Dulux as a "delicate, welcoming pink that evokes feelings of tenderness, comfort and assurance at a time when stability is hard to come by."
After 21 years of Dulux trend forecasting, leading interior designers and Dulux found that this year the global population has felt more informed than ever, but now that our busy lives have resumed, many of us have lost times of clarity and joy.
With the Dulux Colour of the Year always being a highly-anticipated event by interior designers and home enthusiasts, we're excited to inform you that this colour can easily be incorporated into your own home.
So, why is the colour called Sweet Embrace? Known for its comforting qualities, the gorgeous pink hue exudes a gentle, soothing energy that Dulux describes to wrap around you like "an arm around the shoulder."
It is also a metameric colour, which means the different tones within the new shade are highlighted when the sun hits it. For example in the morning and during midday, Sweet Embrace will look more blush pink, but by the evening it will look increasingly more violet.
Not to forget, it also taps into the pink interior trend this year, but instead is a softer and more usable solution to the current craze.
One of the people behind this exciting launch is Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director and Colour Expert at Dulux.
Marianne explains how you can incorporate the colour into your home: "While being a beautiful standalone colour, it’s a hue that perfectly combines with so many other shades making it a cheerleader in colour form. Therefore, Dulux has also curated three unique palettes featuring Sweet Embrace to showcase how it can be used to create environments that feel personal and meet the needs of the space – as well as those who use it."
The first palette is 'A Warm Colour Story', which is a group of earthy shades that includes Winter Pumpkin, Copper Glow, Pink Sandstone, Cherished Ribbon, Fireside Embers, Peanut Butter, Brave Ground – COTY21, Cashmere Throw and Treasured Memory.
The second palette is 'A Calm Colour Story', which differently creates a room that recalls woodlands and seascapes. This palette uses the colours: Nordic Hills, Neptune Seas, Pea Shoot, Tranquil Dawn – COTY20, Horizon View, Sapphire Salute, Fresh Foliage, Ocean Stone and Serene Waters.
Finally, the third palette is 'An Uplifting Colour Story' which uses dreamy and uplifting shades to help create a space that feels energised, joyful and open to new opportunities. The colours in these palette includes: Rocking Horse, Sandy Shallows, Wild Wonder- COTY23, Fragrant Peony, Ochre Sands, High Summer, Warm Straw, Lilac Skies and Tailors Chalk.
