Cleaning the bathroom is an undeniably mundane task. But #CleanTok – that’s the catchall term for all the cleaning-related content on social media channel TikTok – has again come through with a clever hack. Recently, Oxo's Extendable Tub and Tile Scrubber has been wowing users, with hundreds showing off their satisfyingly sparkly results. Best of all? It's just £15.99!

Oxo Extendable Tub and Tile Scrub

Extendable Tub and Tile Scrub

Part sponge, part scourer, the scrubber is essentially a thick, slightly abrasive cleaning pad on a pivoting telescopic handle. That means it can reach right up to your ceiling and squeeze happily into awkward gaps, without the need for you to crouch, climb or kneel. It’s designed to make life much easier for those who are less able to bend comfortably – or who happen to be on the shorter side.

Keen to see if the Oxo scrubber lives up to the hype, I got stuck in on my own – admittedly neglected – bathroom tiles. Will I have my own impressive #TileCleaning before-and-after to share?

Using the Oxo Tub and Tile Scrubber

I used the scrubber on my tiles, bath, shower screen and sink, scrubbing away at the tiles with a moderate pressure after a few sprays of bathroom cleaner. In just a few motions, grime stains were gone – and even the grout looked fresher. The tool was pleasingly lightweight, which meant no arm ache after tackling tiles near the ceiling, even after going for a while.

The non-slip was also great. It allowed me to maintain a good grip when going over all slippery wet surfaces, like the shower screen and bathtub, so soap scum was banished promptly and easily.

I was also impressed with the sponge’s abrasive surface, which performed especially well on less grotty areas. No elbow grease at all was needed to get my bath sparkling clean. The large sponge ensured dirty water was soaked up cleanly without leaking back down the surface I’d just wiped, as well.

On the other hand, due to the size of the flat sponge, hard-to-reach areas like behind the taps on my bathtub and sink weren’t so accessible. Instead, I ended up going in with my Scrub Daddy sponge, which offered more precision.

Oxo Tub and Tile Scrubber: The Verdict

I think TikTok’s got this one right; I’d highly recommend this handy scrubber. It did a great job and helps prevents both back ache and knee pain from bending over the bath, and potential strains from stretching up to reach the ceiling, in one handy product. Not bad for under £20!

So it’s official: TikTok’s favourite tile and tub scrubber does deserve a spot in your cupboard next to the Scrub Daddy and your SonicScrubber. You can pick one up from Lakeland here or Amazon here, or see some alternatives below.
