15 of our favourite tart recipes
With our array of sweet and savoury tarts, there's something for everyone.

Tarts can come in a sweet or savoury form. From Portuguese tarts to French onion tarts, we have one suitable for every occasion.
For a quick teatime treat, our cheat's jam tarts are ready in just 20min and require only 2 ingredients, pastry and strawberry jam! Our white chocolate tarts are a little more involved but equally as tasty. A Kirsch (a cherry liqueur) flavoured white chocolate filling is topped with a fruit of you choice, a wonderful dinner party dessert option.
For a savoury option, give the camembert and tomato tarts a go. Requiring just four ingredients and taking only 20min, these tasty tarts are the perfect lunch or speedy dinner choice.
The key to a great tart is the pastry, whether it's filo, shortcrust or puff. Some of these recipes use shop bought pastry for ease, but if the recipe calls for a homemade shortcrust pastry; here are our top tips:
• Don't over work your pastry as overworking it will develop the gluten making it tough. Only whizz your ingredients until just combined and only rollout out once
• Always chill your pastry before baking. This helps the gluten to relax which will prevent shrinkage in the oven
• It is essential to use cold butter and water (if the recipe calls for water) in your pastry as it will help ensure crisp pastry
• Always blind bake your pastry before pouring any filling in. This allows the pastry to cook all the way through, resulting in a crisp base
An experienced and highly skilled team of food writers, stylists and digital content producers, the Good Housekeeping Cookery Team is a close-knit squad of food obsessives. Cookery Editor Emma Franklin is our resident chilli obsessive and barbecue expert, who spends an inordinate amount of time on holidays poking round the local supermarkets seeking out new and exciting foods. Senior Cookery Writer Alice Shields is a former pastry chef and baking fanatic who loves making bread and would have peanut butter with everything if she could. Her favourite carb is pasta, and our vibrant green spaghetti is her weeknight go-to. Lover of all things savoury, Senior Cookery Writer Grace Evans can be found eating crispy corn and nocellara olives at every opportunity, and will take the cheeseboard over dessert any time (though she cannot resist a slice of tres leches cake). With a wealth of professional kitchen know-how, culinary training and years of experience between them, they are all dedicated to ensuring every Good Housekeeping recipe is the best it can be, so you can trust they’ll work (and if they don’t – we’ll have the answer for why*) every time (*90% of the time the answer is: “buy an separate oven thermometer”!).
