This Iuxurious thick Italian-style hot chocolate is so easy to make and perfect as a dessert. For an extra grown-up twist, add a little of your favourite liqueur - or a warming spirit like rum or whisky - once it’s made.
This hot chocolate recipe is more like a dessert in a cup due to its thick and decadent texture, rather than your average hot chocolate drink.
It's the perfect recipe to make if you're entertaining guests or looking for a fun hot chocolate station idea for a kids birthday party as you can leave it in the slow cooker on low after cooking to keep it warm.

100ml

1tsp.

75g
70% dark chocolate, broken into small pieces

Directions
Step 1Put the cornflour and cocoa powder into the pot of a slow cooker and whisk together.
Step 2Measure the milk, cream and vanilla extract into a jug and whisk together. Gradually whisk the milk mixture into the dry ingredients, ensuring there are no lumps and the liquid is smooth.
Step 3Add the dark chocolate, close lid, turn slow cooker on to high and heat for 1hr (timings may vary between slow cooker models), whisking after the first 20min of cooking to incorporate the melted chocolate and after 30min once the mixture begins to thicken.
Step 4Whisk in sugar or honey, to taste, if you like. Keep hot chocolate warm in the slow cooker, whisking just before serving to smooth out any skin that forms on the top. Serve in small cups.
