A combination of 5 simple spices can warm up any autumnal day. Pumpkin spice is made from cinnamon, cloves, allspice, nutmeg and ginger.
Follow our recipe below as a rough guide, but if you’re a particular fan of anyone of the above spices, then experiment by adding more of that spice.
However, er on the side of caution when it comes to nutmeg, as it’s particularly strong!
Pumpkin Spice Recipe:
- 2tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1tbsp ground ginger
- 1/2tbsp allspice
- 1/2tbsp ground cloves
- 1tsp ground nutmeg
- Mix everything together and store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
What can you use pumpkin spice in?
You can substitute most spices in baked goods with an equal amount of pumpkin spice mix.
For example, in our pumpkin spiced brownies, instead of 1tsp nutmeg and 2tsp cinnamon, substitute for 3tsp pumpkin spice mix. Or, in our pumpkin pie recipe, substitute 1tsp cinnamon, 1/2tsp mixed spice and 1/2tsp ginger, with 2tsp pumpkin spice mix.
Other recipes that pumpkin spice mix can be substituted into;
- Cinnamon Buns
- Pumpkin Spice Latte Loaf Cake
- Pumpkin Spiced Doughnuts
- Layered Cinnamon Scones
- Cinnamon Bun Pancakes
It can also be used in the following, quantity of spice used is up to taste preference;
- Pumpkin spiced latte-heat milk, spice mix, coffee granules and sugar together in a pan on the hob
- Spiced porridge-stir spice mix through oats prior to cooking on hob
- Pumpkin spiced whipped cream-whip cream with spice mix
- Spiced nuts-sprinkle spice mix and sugar over nuts and then roast in the oven
- Spiced pancakes-stir through pancake batter
