These are the best deals in the (virtual!) wine aisle right now
With food prices rising, we’re keen to cut back where we can. But that doesn’t mean forgoing life’s luxuries. Because we’ve scoured the (virtual) wine aisles to bring you the best deals across white, red, rosé and sparkling wine right now.
Best wine deals August 2025
We think these bottles are absolute bargains, but more importantly, they taste great too and should work well throughout the month of August – whether you’re hosting friends and family, or going to a BBQ. They've all been selected by our senior food & drink editor, Stacey Smith, who is a WSET-certified wine and spirits expert and has worked in the industry for over 10 years.
Sparkling wines
Nyetimber’s English sparkling rosé is a brilliant blush to enjoy over the long August bank holiday. There’s currently £10 off, making it a great way to discover just how far English wine has come in recent years.
Looking for something unique, organic and sparkling? We’ve found just the thing. Made with the ancient (and rarely seen in the UK) Friulian grape variety, this Italian sparkling wine is fresh and zesty, with notes of citrus peel and a crisp, mineral finish.
Try it with summer salads or enjoy as an aperitif. It’s available now for just £8 at Ocado, down from £12, until 12 August.
Vintage champagne for £25 a bottle? We can’t imagine this sticking around for long, but if you manage to get your hands on a bottle (or six!) you’ll be treated to delicate bubbles, candied citrus peel, creamy hazelnut and honey. A real treat for special occasions.

Rosé wines
Make the most of summer with a magnum of rosé. Originally bottled exclusively for members-only club Soho House, Lady A is now available to us mere mortals (and currently at a decent discount). It's as thirst-quenching as they come, offering crisp citrus, green apple and raspberry aromas.
The chic label (designed by Damien Hirst, no less), makes this our go-to for gifting and the magnum is equivalent to two standard bottles, making it just £15.50 a pop.
If you’re a rosé drinker, you’ll no doubt be familiar with the Mirabeau brand, but have you tried this organic Provence rosé?
Stocked exclusively at Majestic, it was a new one for us but is set to become a repeat buy. It’s from the B Corp company’s regenerative estate, and displays fresh acidity, red berries and food-friendly spice on the finish. Try it with grilled tiger prawns or barbecued pork steaks.

White wines
Did you know you can now pick up Virgin Wines with your weekly shop, via Ocado? Well now you do, and we recommend snapping up this fresh gruner veltliner from Austria.
If you’re not familiar with this grape, you can expect a beautiful blend of citrus and rich stone fruit, with a little spice that makes it a really well-rounded sip. Team with a Greek salad, and don’t skimp on the feta.
A lovely expression of this Italian white wine, made from the cortese grape. We like it for its crisp acidity, blossom nose and fruit-forward pear and melon palate. It’s really food friendly, but weighty enough to as a standalone sipper too.
If you see a roast chicken in your future, this is the wine to buy. It’s a textbook Aussie chardonnay, with citrus, peach and grapefruit, wrapped up in a luxurious, rich and toasty finish. We didn’t want it to end, and you won’t either.
Half the fun of drinking wine is making new discoveries, and this really interesting bottle is on special offer right now. It’s made from 100% Xarelo-lo, a grape usually made into cava, and it’s aged in new chestnut barrels for six months.
The result is a golden, full-bodied white with hints of nuts and stone fruit, that tastes great now and will pair well with more autumnal food, if you fancy stocking up.
Albarino seems to have gained popularity this summer, and rightly so. Bright, fresh and complex, we love the combination of fresh herbs, blossom and tropical fruit. This one has had five months of lees ageing, for a richer, more textured finish.
Red wines
We’re always on the search for a well-priced red that we can justify cracking open mid-week, and we think we’ve found it with this medium-bodied Montepulciano. At under a tenner, this peacock wine is one to remember, delivering ripe berries and a touch of spice – we'd give it a go with spag bol.
Think red wines aren’t for summer? Think again. Light, juicy, and best served chilled, Beaujolais rewrites the rules when it comes to red wine.
Soft and fruity, with notes of redcurrant, strawberry and cherry, this Fleurie has a particularly silky finish, and a touch of pepper. An elegant, easy-drinking bottle for alfresco feasts.
If you’re after excellent value, you need to look in less obvious wine regions. So then to Romania, where you’ll find this brilliant pinot noir for just £8 a bottle. With silky notes of juicy black cherry, raspberry and cinnamon, it’s particularly good straight out of the fridge with a plate of charcuterie.
Shiraz is Australia’s biggest selling grape variety, and its full-bodied, fruit-forward nature, along with soft, silky tannins, make it a real crowd pleaser. The blackcurrant, bramble and spice also work well with an array of grilled meat.
This lightly sparkling red is fruity and expressive – just pop it in the fridge for a couple of hours before serve, and you’ve got the perfect serve for August soirees. It’s 32% cheaper at Aldi than elsewhere right now, but as with all Specialbuys, once it’s gone, it’s gone!
How to get good wine for less
To ensure you get the best bottle for your buck, look to lesser-known wine regions. For example, switching your champagne for less prestigious (but no less delicious) crémant – made in the exact same way, just down the road – could save you a fortune. And rather than France, zoom out to Romania, or try bottles from ‘New World’ wine countries such as Chile and Argentina.
We also recommend steering clear of the most well-known grape varieties, such as Burgundy pinot noir, and trying out less famous indigenous grapes such as Italy’s Montepulciano. Often, you’ll discover new favourites at a fraction of the price of their more famous counterparts.
It’s also worth taking advantage of bulk buy offers. Many retailers, including Majestic, Sainsbury’s, and Waitrose, among others, frequently offer discounts on mixed cases.
And of course, the likes of Aldi and Lidl still have some absolute gems at well under £10.
