Our tasting panel ate 96 Easter eggs to find the best from every supermarket

This year, as part of our annual Easter Taste Test, our panel of experts and readers munched their way through 96 eggs from the leading supermarkets and retailers to find the best Easter eggs for 2025. We started in January and, yes, we take our chocolate very seriously here at the Good Housekeeping Institute.
One supermarket that performed well across every category, from crowd-pleasing milk chocolate eggs to grown-up dark chocolate options, was ASDA, thanks to its signature Exceptional range.
So, we’ve rounded up our top picks to add to your basket the next time you’re doing your weekly shop, across the own brand options and top chocolatiers. Even better, our winners are currently on offer, so you can indulge for less.
How we test Easter eggs
We tried 96 eggs across milk, white, dark, kids and vegan categories. They were blinded to avoid any brand bias and we were looking for a rich chocolatey flavour, a smooth texture and mouthfeel and glossy appearance.

This one came out on top in our fiercely competitive milk chocolate egg category, which is no mean feat.
Our panel raved about the combination of crunchy pretzel and honeycomb-studded milk chocolate, which delivered the perfect blend of sweet and salty. At less than £8 right now, it's also our top value buy. We don't think you'll regret adding this one to your online shop.

ASDA did the double in our taste tests this year, winning both the milk and dark chocolate categories. Our top dark chocolate egg has a distinct orange aroma and flavour, which is balanced with more subtle notes of spicy ginger. Citrus peel adds some welcome crunch to the shell.

This is packed full of crunchy roasted hazelnuts and chewy golden raisins, so will please fans of the classic fruit and nut combo. Our panel also enjoyed the light, creamy cocoa flavour of the thick shell.

This Easter is all about blonde chocolate eggs, which combine delicious caramel notes with white chocolate. This is our fourth top pick from the Exceptional range and our taste testers enjoyed the nutty addition here, bringing a salty note to the sweet, caramelised chocolate. One for the white chocolate fans.

You don't have to choose between milk and white chocolate with this clever Cadbury fusion. It was instantly recognisable to our panel for its nostalgic flavour (even with branding removed). It's a surefire crowd-pleaser.

Quality Street is coming for the Easter crown with its popular Incredible egg. Our panel liked the rich, butterscotch and cocoa flavour of this egg, which is elevated by the chunks of fudge in the shell. It also has a bag of fudge and caramel Quality Street hidden inside.

This egg isn't for the faint-hearted. It's pure, creamy, vanilla-laced indulgence with luxurious white chocolate truffles and a smooth shell. Little and often is our suggested approach to this rich, buttery combination.

Everyone has a Toblerone fan in their life and this egg has all the honeyed sweetness, nutty almonds and light, creamy cocoa notes they'll know and love. The truffles that come with the egg are smooth and silky and have a richer cocoa taste that contrasts nicely with the milky egg shell.

While the egg itself isn't mint chocolate – instead, it has a bitter, rich flavour with a hint of vanilla – the accompanying truffles more than make up for that with a strong peppermint flavour and creamy texture. The word for this egg is "smooth”. If mint is your go-to flavour, then it's the one for you.
