How we test Christmas crisps
The Good Housekeeping Institute tested 10 sharing bags of Christmas crisps to find their top picks for 2024, with each presented to our panel “blind” to avoid brand bias. They were looking for snacks with a clearly identifiable flavour that truly captured the taste of Christmas.

While tortilla chips may normally be reserved for taco night, these Christmas tree-shaped snacks — flavoured with the unmistakable taste of turkey and stuffing — are deliciously festive. With notes of rosemary, sage and garlic, the salty morsels proved incredibly moreish.
ASDA Extra Special Beef & Red Wine Gravy Flavour Hand Cooked Crisps 150g

If beef is your meat of choice for the main event, we recommend trying ASDA’s crunchy hand-cooked crisps to whet your appetite. They’re flavoured with smoky Aberdeen Angus beef no less, and proved popular with our panel, with a pleasingly spicy note and richness from the red wine.
Savoursmiths Christmas Ham With Truffle And Umami Glaze 3 x 150g
Score: 81/100
Savoursmiths' posh crisps would be equally at home at a drinks party alongside canapés, as in our leftover turkey Boxing Day sandwich. The limited-edition flavour is, surprisingly, vegan-friendly, and while lightly spiced festive ham is the dominant flavour, the truffle acts as a delicious background note, so as not to overpower.
A luxe crisp deserves the best, so don’t be afraid to crack open a bottle of bubbles to serve alongside.

Cheeseboard purists may want to look away now, because Morrisons has taken inspiration from an oozy baked camembert and combined it with roasted garlic to flavour this limited-edition snack. The result? Creamy and a little bit tangy, this is a classic crisp that will work with a variety of dips.

Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Turkey Gravy Ridge Cut Hand Cooked Crisps 150g

For those who prefer a chunky ridged potato snack, Sainsbury’s has the answer. These combine the comforting flavour of rich turkey gravy with a peppery kick that we think roast dinner fans will approve of.

While parmesan and truffle isn’t an overtly Christmas flavour combination, the festive period is a time of indulgence, so we’ve made an allowance.
A far cheaper alternative to Torres’ much-loved but pricey version, Lidl’s budget cheesy take has a strong presence of the luxury, earthy ingredient from the first bite, and the crisps themselves are extra thick for a satisfying crunch.

The combination of roast duck, infused with spiced rum, results in a sweet hoisin sauce flavour, all wrapped up in a rough, crinkle cut crisp. Our testers confirmed these have an excellent crunch, and we think they’d be delicious served alongside a rum-based cocktail such as a mai tai. Cheers!
