Best salmon

ASDA Boneless Salmon Side 800g

UK Taste Approved(GH)
Boneless Salmon Side 800g

Score: 81/100

If you enjoy putting your own stamp on dinner, ASDA’s boneless salmon side proved the most popular base for the job. Our panel found this fish cooked well, and had a natural sweetness, fresh flavour and moist, tender flakes. Finish simply with a squeeze of lemon to allow the quality to shine, or top with slices of orange.

2
Best salmon en croute

COOK Salmon en Croute 1.2kg

UK Taste Approved(GH)
Salmon en Croute 1.2kg

Score: 79/100

Alternatively, COOK’s salmon en croute is a real showstopper. Our testers loved the buttery, flakey pastry, and thought the lemony, spinach, dill, creme fraiche and caper sauce was the ideal accompaniment for the fish. It cooks straight from frozen and serves six, making it our top choice for easy entertaining.

Scottish Half Salmon Side 500g

Score: 78/100

The By Amazon range is a good place to look for your Easter feast if you’re watching the pennies. Offering a wide range of products at great prices, it includes this half salmon side, which will feed up to four people.

Our experts thought it offered great value for the quality of the fish, with a clean, fresh flavour and natural oiliness, ready for you to customise as you wish.

Tesco Boneless Salmon Side 1kg

UK Taste Approved(GH)
Boneless Salmon Side 1kg

Score: 77/100

Tesco is a top choice for salmon with a “mature” flavour profile. It’s quite lean though, which resulted in the fish being slightly dried out on test, so you might want to cook for a touch less than recommended.

Pair with a hearty salad with balsamic vinegar or your favourite sides for a lighter Easter lunch.

No.1 Scottish Salmon Prime Fillet 500g

Score: 74/100

This Scottish salmon fillet can be cooked whole or portioned into individual pieces. It would also be the perfect fish for making your own salmon en croute! Our testers thought the texture was excellent – thick, juicy and moist – with a rich natural flavour.

6

The Fish Society Salmon En Croûte

UK Taste Approved(GH)
Salmon En Croûte

Score: 73/100

Our panel enjoyed the appetising aromas of cheese and white wine from this ready-made salmon en croute. Wrapped in buttery pastry with mushrooms and spinach, the salmon had a pleasing flavour, though some testers wished it had been a little stronger in contrast to the cheesy vegetable filling.

Best value Easter seafood

Lidl Lighthouse Bay Side of Salmon 800g

UK Taste Approved(GH)
Lighthouse Bay Side of Salmon 800g

Score: 72/100

If you’re conscious of making your money go further this Easter, Lidl’s salmon scooped our best value award. It’s a fairly thin cut (so watch you don’t overcook it!), and while it wasn’t quite as sweet and luxurious as other salmon on test, our panel felt it would be a good base for homemade dressings, herbs and sauces.
