The best Camembert cheese to bake at home
Dipping freshly baked bread into melted cheese is one of life's greatest joys. Get stuck in to one of our tried and tested baking Camemberts and pretend you're in France...

Dipping freshly baked bread into a rich and gooey baked Camembert is a cosy alpine treat like no other.
If you’ve never baked a Camembert before, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is – and it really is a crowd-pleaser.
How to bake Camembert cheese
The Good Housekeeping cookery team suggests unwrapping the Camembert, cutting slits in the top of the cheese, and pushing in some rosemary sprigs and thin slices of garlic for a fragrant flavour.
Drizzle over a little olive oil or white wine and bake it at 200°C (or 180°C for fan ovens) for 20 to 25 minutes, until it's tinged with gold and gently bubbling.
GH tip: Camemberts that come in a box can often go straight in the oven - box and all - but always check the packaging. If your cheese comes box-less, simply wrap it in foil for a similar bake.
What goes well with Camembert cheese?
Baked Camembert is typically served with a crusty baguette, cured meats and crunchy cornichons. If you're hosting a dinner party, toss a fresh green side salad with an acidic dressing that'll cut through the stodginess of the cheese. Boiled new potatoes, jams and chutneys also pair brilliantly.
How we test
Our testing team tried Camemberts (or British Camembert-style cheeses) from a mix of supermarkets and cheese shops. Some came on their own, others came in a ceramic baker for a beautiful, even bake – the perfect accessory for any cheese aficionado.
During the taste test, our consumer panel looked for a robust rind that didn’t break in the oven, an earthy aroma and a balanced, creamy flavour.
