2RUNNER-UP: Waitrose & Partners Belgian Double Chocolate Chunk All Butter Cookies
Waitrose & PartnersOverall Score: 86/100
Chunky cookies are filled with milk and dark chocolate pieces. Its chocolatey, shortbread notes went down well with the enjoyable – if not odd - slight coconut aroma. The combination of dark and milk chocolate gives the biscuit both sweet and bitter flavours that add great depth of flavour to the buttery taste.

3McVities Choc Chip Cookies
McVitie'sOverall Score: 78/100
Smaller in size but all can be forgiven thanks to its rich, dark chocolate quality and subtle browned butter taste. The biscuit has a melt-in-the-mouth, crumbly texture that was likened to a shortbread. The soft and fudgy milk chocolate adds a lovely sweetness to the buttery biscuit, but some testers found it a touch too sweet.

5Maryland Chocolate Chip Cookies
MarylandOverall Score: 76/100
A classic golden-brown cookie with complimentary buttery notes, coupled with a sweet milk chocolate scent – the combination of which comes out in the flavour. However, some testers found the biscuit a touch too sweet overall. Initially crunchy with a crumbly finish to the texture.

6M&S Chocolate Chip Cookies
M&SOverall Score: 71/100
This cookie has a generous smattering of chocolate chips running through it and there is a strong buttery aroma in the biscuit. The semi-sweet chocolate flavour comes through well against the pleasantly buttery biscuit flavour. It was a bit too dry and hard for our testers though.

7Tesco Chocolate Chip Cookies
TescoOverall Score: 63/100
There is a gentle butter and slightly creamy aroma to this biscuit, but testers wanted more chocolate chips in the mix. We enjoyed the wheat flavour and subtle but pleasant milk chocolate sweetness, but it wasn’t strong enough against the biscuit, making the overall flavour quite bland and unbalanced. It has a crumbly and drying texture and a cloying mouthfeel.

8Morrison's Chocolate Chip Cookies
Morrison'sOverall Score: 62/100
A nicely baked golden-brown cookie with a buttery sweet aroma – with testers likening it to a homemade cookie smell. Testers liked the gentle buttery notes to the biscuit and mild sweetness but as there were very few chocolate chips present, meaning the cookie lacked the rich depth of chocolate, leading to a bland flavour overall. It does, however, have a good crunchy texture.
