2JOINT WINNER: M&S Our Best Ever Trifle
M&SOverall score: 77/100
Layers of thick custard, raspberry coulis and sponge are topped with expertly piped whipped cream to create this top-scoring trifle. The scent is fruity, with testers specifically smelling the sweet raspberries. Likened to clotted cream ice-cream, the rich taste of the whipped cream impressed our panel and the sweetness of the vanilla custard paired with zingy-sweet raspberries gave a balanced flavour.

4Aldi Specially Selected Hand Rolled Lemon, Raspberry & White Chocolate Roulades
AldiOverall score: 73/100
The meringue in this roulade has a satisfyingly crispy shell and is filled with fresh cream, lemon curd and raspberries. The dessert has a zingy aroma, while the raspberries add a sweet berry taste. The berries, cream and lemon work together to produce a light and refreshing roulade. The touch of white chocolate is initially very pleasant but becomes slightly sickly as you work your way through the dessert.

5Tesco Finest Passionfruit & Raspberry Cheesecake Slices
TescoOverall score: 72/100
Testers loved the tropical scent of this vibrant-coloured cheesecake, which has raspberry and passionfruit seeds sitting in a jelly. The dessert looks premium and our panel loved the punchiness of the sweet, tart passionfruit mixed with the sharp taste of the raspberries. Testers found the biscuit base slightly too crumbly, and it had a slight sugariness to it that, mixed with the jelly, was a little too sweet for some. The freshness of the cream cheese helps to mask this though.

6Iceland Raspberry & Passion Fruit Roulade
IcelandOverall score: 71/100
A thick, raspberry jam swirl gives this roulade a subtle Jackson Pollock feel. The zesty smell of passionfruit and lemon appealed to our testers and masked a slight eggy aroma. Our panel loved how the combination of the sugary, crisp meringue shell and the raspberries creates an enjoyable yet strong sweetness, while there's also a hint of citrus from the lemon. The intense sweet and sour flavour was too much for some, who felt the dessert needed more creaminess for balance.

7Co-op Strawberry & Cream Roulade
WaitroseOverall score: 64/100
The silver and white appearance of this roulade reminded us more of Christmas than summer, but it still looks impressive. There's a subtle strawberries and cream aroma, and testers loved the freshness of the cream when it came to taste. Some found the meringue and strawberry curd a little too sweet after continued eating, but the shell had a satisfying crunch.
In store only, Co-op, £4 for 420g
8Waitrose & Partners Cherry & Pistachio Cheesecake
WaitroseOverall score: 61/100
Impressed by this cheesecake's well-defined layers, testers loved the neat, professional-looking distinction between the biscuit base, creamy pistachio middle and the red jelly, which is studded with whole cherries. Though subtle in smell, cherries are strong on the palate - many found their sourness overpowering and the pistachio taste too light. The cheesecake has gentle notes of almond though, which many likened favourably to marzipan, and our panel also enjoyed the softness of the cream cheese against the crumbly biscuit base, which has a lovey buttery flavour.
