Tiramisu is famed for its creamy layers and unique combination of coffee and alcohol. A perfect pudding to finish a dinner party with, or for whenever you fancy a rich treat.

It can be difficult to find an authentic Italian taste with the pre-made desserts, so the testers at Good Housekeeping set out to find which one is worth buying!

WINNER Morrisons Tiramisu

MORRISONS

Overall Score: 78/100

A real delight! Thick and decadent with a neatly piped mascarpone cheese cream topping and dusted with an even layer of cocoa. Testers loved the heavily soaked sponge with a hint of coffee and subtle boozy smell. The sweet and mousse-like cream is gorgeously fresh and pairs well with notes of marsala wine, gentle coffee and slightly bitter cocoa.

RUNNER-UP Essential Waitrose Tiramisu

WAITROSE

Overall Score: 77/100

Thick, creamy peaks with defined, even layers of cream and sponge and dusted with dark cocoa. Our panel loved the scent of roasted coffee, sweet caramel and heady booze. The vanilla cream was flavourful and the sponge well soaked with a light coffee bitterness. But the boozy base was too strong for some, and the sponge was a little soggy.

Caffe Concerto Tiramisu

Cafe Concerto

Overall Score: 75/100

An impressive tiramisu-style cake with perfectly defined mascarpone layers and a decadent finish, topped with a white chocolate flower, chocolate twirled pieces and multi chocolate squares. We loved the espresso layer and slight boozy notes but thought the sponge lacked flavour and needed more soaking. The initially sweet, vanilla-y aroma is balanced with a rich, slightly bitter cacao note. Although the mascarpone is creamy and smooth, the texture of the cream is almost bouncy with a gelatinous feel.

Tesco Tiramisu

TESCO

Overall Score: 74/100

Testers loved the ratios of cream, sponge and piped mascarpone. The desert has a slight hint of coffee with a toasted and nutty quality, finished off with a strong sweetness and heady boozy scent. Creamy mascarpone comes through, but some thought the cream was too sweet and the coffee a little artificial. Unfortunately, there were sections of the sponge that had not soaked up the coffee and the cream was a little runny in places.

Co-op Tiramisu

Coop Tiramisu
COOP

Overall Score: 73/100

An attractive dessert with six evenly piped sections of cream, delicately dusted with cocoa. Testers liked the mousse-like, sweet mascarpone cream, boozy taste and subtle coffee notes, but some found the flavour too subtle and the alcohol overpowering. The bottom layer of sponge was a little soggy but the cream was superbly light and smooth.

Lidl Milbona Italian Tiramisu

Lidl Tiramisu
LIDL

Overall Score: 73/100

These individual portions of tiramisu are well dusted with cocoa, layered with lots of light, mousse-like cream with a thin, moist looking sponge. There was a strong brandy aroma and a sweet creaminess, though the familiar punch of coffee was lacking. We loved the creamy lactic notes and subtle bitterness, but some felt it was overly sweet.

COOK Tiramisu

COOK Tiramisu
COOK

Overall Score: 71/100

A homemade appearance, with dense, creamy, well-defined layers and a generous dusting of cocoa. We loved the mild boozy smell with hints of coffee and balance of bitterness from the cocoa. The chocolate sponge adds a twist to the usual flavour and we could really taste the gentle, dark bitterness. Unfortunately, though, the creaminess and boozy flavour was lost and the sponge was unevenly soaked.
