Jaffa cake fans listen up, there's a new flavour in town and it's jumping on the 'swicy' trend. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, swicy is a mixture of sweet and spicy, with the main trend being hot honey (honey infused with chilli) and it's extremely delicious, especially on some grilled halloumi and blistered cherry tomatoes - but in a Jaffa cake? We're not too sure what to think of it.
If you love all things sweet and spicy, this treat might just be what you were missing in your life. The new limited edition McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Hot Honey combines the sweetness of honey with the heat of chilli inside the jelly filling that sits on top. It's covering a light sponge base and then coated in Jaffa Cake’s signature crackly dark chocolate.
McVitie's are trying to appeal to a younger audience by jumping onto these food trends and this isn't the first time they've brought out a unique flavour - last year we saw them bring out a Cola Bottle flavour, so this is dubbed to be the newest hot launch among the TikTok users.
Also we can't talk about Jaffa Cakes without mentioning one of our favourite recipes of all time: our Jaffa Cakes Cheesecake. We've even made the top look exactly like a real Jaffa Cake! It's a clever hack and it tastes incredible if we do say so ourselves.
The new McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Hot Honey packs includes 10 ‘Hot Cakes’ inside a pack with an retail price of £1.50 and is available across Asda stores already (although we're struggling to find it online for now) before it rolls out more widely across other supermarkets and convenience stores.
Do you think these food trends are here to stay or just a gimmick? If Dubai chocolate is anything to go by, I'm sure 2025 will be the year we see a whole lot more interesting product development launches on our supermarket shelves.
