Is Pret having a bit of a Pret-naissance (sorry we had to) with the launch of two wacky and very vibrant iced coffee flavours? We think so!

Pret has today announced the launch of their summer menu for 2025 and are starting with a bang with two new bold flavours: Ube Brûlée iced latte and Spirulina Macaron iced latte. If these mean nothing to you, read on to find out exactly what they are and what they taste like.

It's the first time we've seen such a wacky but interesting flavoured drink to join the line-up from a high street coffee shop, and the two new flavours are inspired by the wellness trend, with both ube (purple yam) and spirulina being very popular on social media.

As well as the two new flavours, the fan-favourite Iced Matcha Latte is returning with a serious upgrade, with the brand using a ceremonial grade matcha for the smoothest and purest taste possible.

The new Ube Brûlée Iced Latte is described as a refreshing drink filled with subtly sweet, nutty flavours from a purple yam, that has been blended with caramel syrup and combined with Pret’s organic espresso, served with milk over ice.

Never heard of ube before? It is also referred to as a purple yam, and is similar to a sweet potato in texture and taste, but with a subtly sweet, nutty and vanilla taste. It also has a vibrant purple colour inside. It's very common in traditional Filipino cuisine.

Senior food and drinks writer Mel got her hands on both new flavours and here's what she had to say about them: "It definitely has that caramelised sugar taste you'd expect from a brûlée, but it's hard to get a real sense of the ube as it is over powered by the strong coffee and syrup. It is delicious, but I'm not getting ube in this one."

Whilst the new Spirulina Macaron Iced Latte combines blue spirulina with sweet macaron syrup over Pret’s organic espresso, milk and ice, giving a bold new twist in a striking blue hue.

Mel says: "This one is my favourite of the two, and has a lovely coconut/nutty taste which works really nicely against the subtle earthy flavour from the spirulina. This one is punchier in flavour and works better against the strong coffee taste."

If you're unsure about this one, blue spirulina has a mild, earthy taste and is not too dissimilar to green spirulina, but we don't expect this drink to taste as strong as regular green spirulina, and its colour adds a really striking blue hue to drinks such as cocktails, smoothies and now, iced coffees!

Both of these unique and quirky flavours are available from today for a limited time across UK shops. And if you're part of Club Pret, all of these drinks are available on there, meaning you can get them half price, every day, for just £5 a month.

And to celebrate the launch, Pret has teamed up with cult nail salon Shoreditch Nails to create exclusive nail art inspired by each iced latte and there will be two in-shop mani pop-ups taking place in Pret Hackney and Pret Shoreditch, with booking info announced on Pret's Instagram page soon.
