Easter innovation is going from strength to strength this year, with brands like M&S releasing viral pistachio and Custard Cream Easter eggs, Terry's Chocolate launching their own creme egg to rival an actual Cadbury's Creme Egg, and Lindt with their extraordinary range of mini eggs. So, when we heard that Waitrose was launching a Chocolate Croissant Easter egg - we knew we had to get our hands on it.
The brand describes it as a 'perfectly shaped croissant made of rich blonde chocolate, with a feuilletine wafer and caramel pieces, decorated with a drizzle of milk chocolate and sprinkled with crunchy chocolate crumbs'. There's a lot going on with this egg, but we were genuinely blown away by how unique and delicious it tastes.
The egg has a lovely sweet and caramelised blonde chocolate taste (with a slight hint of salt, too), and reminded us of a beloved Caramac chocolate bar (RIP), but the real highlight is when you take a bite into it, and you taste the lovely caramelised pieces of feuilletine wafer, with its crispy texture, reminiscent of a buttery, flaky croissant.
It's extra thick inside too (which we like), but on the softer side, so you don't need to worry about your breaking your teeth when taking a bite straight out of this (you know you want to). It's a unique and novelty flavoured egg done really well, and we love the fact they've taken inspiration from a real croissant.
As well as the croissant egg, other notable highlights in the range include the viral No.1 Cracking Pistachio Easter Egg, which is made up of a blonde chocolate outer shell, and inside hides a pistachio-flavoured egg with pistachio nibs (it reminded us of stacking dolls) with its sweet and nutty taste.
Alongside that, we were also very excited about the new innovation of their Apple & Cinnamon Hot Cross Bunn-ettone, a hybrid hot cross bun and panettone product, just in time for Easter. The dough is light and airy, and we loved it's gently spiced flavour and sweetness from the plump sultanas and apple filling.
There's also a brand-new Toffee Ribbon Easter Egg that sounds insanely deliciousm, too. It's a creamy milk chocolate egg with toffee chips scattered on the outside of the egg which gives the egg a lovely toffee crunch. This is the perfect egg for those who love the sweeter side of Easter indulgence.
With all these amazing product launches, we already know that Easter 2025 is going to be the best one yet. Only a few more days to go...
