Who doesn’t love a buttery mince pie alongside their cuppa during the festive season? Well, it turns out plenty of us are pining after the sweet treat as soon as the weather turns cold.

According to Sainsbury’s, sales of its mince pies are up 136% year on year, with a spokesperson revealing that they are ‘flying off the shelves’ already.

While the supermarket usually stocks the sweet pie all year round, this summer they made the decision to make them a seasonal product only.

The mince pies landed in stores on 6 September, alongside Christmas puds and festive cakes, and it seems people have missed all of the festive products.

Sainsbury’s has also seen a flurry of sales for other seasonal products, with Christmas cake sales rising by 160% and their cognac laced Christmas pudding up by 83%.

It seems as though Christmas really has come early…
