Vegans and readers with lactose intolerance, there's some good news, as a dairy-free cheese range has just been launched by Sainsbury's.
Although dairy-free cheese isn't new, this is the first time a supermarket has created a full range of cheeses, with seven coconut-based cheese-alternatives to choose from.
As well as a cheddar-style 'cheese,' (both as a block and grated), Sainsbury's has also introduced a Wensleydale-style with cranberries, a coconut-based alternative to Feta, a dairy-free Cheddar with caramelised onion and a plain soft style cheese and one that's garlic and herb.

'We’re really proud to launch the widest range of supermarket own brand cheese-alternatives to the UK, including a number of products that are first to market,' says Alexa Masterson, Sainsbury’s Product Developer for Deliciously Freefrom.
'These cheese-alternatives, alongside our broader Deliciously Freefrom offering, allow our shoppers to prepare meals and enjoy products that they may have previously missed out on.'
Sainsbury's have been working hard to extend and improve their allergen-free foods, and recent research from the brand found that the most longed-for dishes by shoppers with food intolerances include pizza, a cheese board, cheesecake and lasagne.

These 'cheeses' have been developed so those who choose to buy it can enjoy it just as you would with a regular cheese (i.e. melt it over toast and smother your pasta with it).
And if you're now desperate to host a vegan cheese and wine evening, there's even a good vegan wine range to choose from.
Cheers to that.
