Fortnum & Mason has just launched a new and exclusive range of gins ahead of world gin day (10 June) — with the first two flavours being a classic dry gin and a gorgeous pink gin.

The new range, called Amalthea, is named after a copper still (the equipment used to distill the gin) that originally takes its name from the mythical goat with a famously abundant horn.

Both gins are made in-house at the brand's Piccadilly store, in its brand-new distillery on the third floor, with the gins brimming with complex citrus aromas that work perfectly in classic gin cocktails, such as the Negroni, G&T, dry martini, French 75 or a gin bramble.

The gins are available in a 500ml and 200ml bottles (in case you just want to try a smaller version first) and Fortnum & Mason also offers personalisation on bottles — which makes for a great gift. the retailer also offers a refillable service for its gins — which we think is a genius idea.

Amalthea Dry Gin is a fresh and bright London Dry, distilled with British Apple Spirit with Earl Grey Tea and Monarch Marmalade, alongside an array of traditional ingredients. It has a complex citrus aroma with notes of earthy juniper and sweet liquorice. Plus, hints of black tea and peppery cassia.

Amalthea Pink Gin is a rhubarb and rose pink gin with a subtle apple brandy-like fruit character and the earthy but sweet notes of rhubarb. The pink colouring is completely natural and is achieved by using cherry and rhubarb. With tonic, it has a juicy, fruity finish with hints of marmalade and apple.

Fortnum & Mason also recently unveiled the store’s new and improved Third Floor which features a food and drink studio, an in-house distillery, a cookware shop (to stock up on all your essential items), a cookbook shop, 3'6 (the name of its cocktail bar) and a section dedicated to making your own DIY hamper for gifting.

It's a destination for sipping, testing, tasting, mixing, making and cocktail-shaking — where beginners meet masters and playing with food is always encouraged.

Prices range from £15.50 to £40 and both gins are bottled in high-quality white flint glass bottle which can be personalised, and an innovative aluminium refill.
