Colin the Caterpillar celebrated his 30th birthday in 2020 and Percy Pig is all settled down with Penny and turning 30 in 2022, so M&S decided, three decades on, it's time for some new faces. Which is how The Ombles came to be.
The supermarket couldn't be more excited to launch the new chocolate brand, saying in the press release: "Could they be the next Percy or Colin…!? We think so 😉"
Made with luxury Belgian milk chocolate and rolled in flakey chocolatey goodness, The Ombles have arrived in M&S stores nationwide on sale for £6 (190g), or a two-pack of Mini Ombles for £5 (95g).
Mel Giandzi, Expert Food Tester here at Good Housekeeping gave them a try and was very impressed by the cute factor and the taste.
Saying: "The new Ombles character from M&S is sure to make you smile. There was some guilt biting into the cute face but once I tried the irresistibly creamy milk chocolate I couldn’t stop. The solid white chocolate balls are sweet with hints of vanilla, while the milk chocolate body has a delicious sweetness with subtle hints of coconut and the milk chocolate flakes add great texture. Perfect for the kids and adults."
Colin the Caterpillar was also quick to comment on the Ombles, saying in the press release: "Well, well, well, what do we have here!? A new loveable M&S chocolate icon in the making - sounds familiar! Welcome to the M&S family The Ombles! You are in for quite a ride!"
And we can expect to get to know The Ombles a lot better this year... they're not just here for Easter.
M&S had this to say in the press release: "We have tonnes planned for possibly THE MOST EXCITING new product of the year – did somebody say The Ombles birthday cakes, sweets or cheeky seasonal treats!? Keep your eyes peeled!"
We think the characterful cuties might be the perfect addition to the fold and the start of something special... maybe we'll be covering their 30th Birthday in 2051?
The Ombles (£6, 190g) and The Mini Ombles (£5, 95g) are available in M&S stores nationwide now.
