Arguably the greatest hybrid since the 'Cronut' ( croissant/donut), and hot on the tails of its 'Yumnut' (Yum Yum/donut), Marks & Spencer has just launched the 'Cretzel'. This new pretzel/croissant combination sounds like the delicious salty baked treat we never knew we needed.
The brand has created this wonder to capture all the best bits of both baked goods. It describes the bake as "combining the perfect chewy bite of a pretzel with the luxurious buttery, flaky pastry of a croissant".
Explaining how the tasty product came to life, M&S Bakery Product Developer Kirsty Rowley said in a press release: "Inspired by our customers' love of the sweet and salty flavour combination, we bring them the Cretzel! The Cretzel combines those contrasting flavours and is really versatile, great on its own, with a coffee at breakfast or delicious with a filling for lunch."
Each Cretzel is baked fresh in the M&S in-store bakeries, topped with traditional lye coating and perfectly finished with a sprinkling of sea salt flakes.
Cretzels look like they'll go well with savoury fillings like ham and cheddar to switch up your lockdown lunches, but M&S says they'll taste just as great with a generous swipe of butter.
Marks & Spencer Cretzels are available now for £1 each. Get them pre-bagged on M&S in-store bakery counters.
