First came the 'cronut', and now Marks & Spencer are betting on the next big thing in hybrid bakery treats with the launch of their new 'Yumnut' - a mix between a yum yum and a doughnut.
The Yumnut is made using M&S' butter-enriched yum yum dough, which needs to rest for a minimum of 18 hours and has a total of 48 laminations (alternating layers of butter and dough). This gives it a light, open texture, according to the retailer - then the sweet treat is deep-fried, glazed and decorated.
There are six different flavours available to tempt your tastebuds, including:
- The Plain Jane, classic sweet and buttery vanilla pastry (£1)
- Raspberry Royal, topped with sharp and fruity fondant and freeze-dried raspberries (£1.15)
- Billionaires, made with salted caramel sauce, a crunchy biscuit crumb and dark chocolate lacing (£1.15)
- Simply the Zest, lemon glaze topped with biscuit crumb and meringue pieces (£1.15)
- Milk & Cookies, vanilla glaze topped with mini-cookies and a chocolate drizzle (£1.15)
- Double Chocolate, topped with milk chocolate fondant and dipped in milk and white chocolate shards (£1.15)
All of the flavours are available in stores now, except for the Double Chocolate which launches 24th March.
According to Kristy Rowley, M&S Bakery Product Developer, the brand sells almost 650 miles worth of yum yums each year so there's sure to be a warm reception for these new hybrid treats.
