Vegans of the world: Pret has got a surprise for you. The sandwich chain announced it would be releasing plant-based versions of four of its popular sandwiches, so everyone can enjoy the taste of the ‘classic’ sandwiches, baguettes and wraps.

Off the back of Quorn revealing they're making vegetarian sandwiches and wraps now, Pret's 'The Vegan Classics' range will consist of vegan versions of its most popular sandwich recipes, in response to consumer demand for more meat-free options.

The sandwich shop has announced the options will be available exclusively in Veggie Pret shops, and have been carefully created ensuring that they taste just like the originals.

So what's on the menu? The VLT, The Vegan Chuna Mayo baguette, The Vegan Eggless Mayo & Cress baguette and The Vegan Hoisin Mushroom Wrap are hitting stores on 24 October.

The VLT has delicious shiitake mushroom ‘rashers’ inside as well as sliced tomatoes, green salad and a dollop of vegan mayo, all served on Pret’s malted bread.

The Vegan Chuna Mayo baguette is a take on the popular Tuna Mayo and Cucumber Baguette, of which over 10,000 sell in the UK every day! The baguette combines chickpeas and vegan mayo, with pickled onions, chopped capers and parsley, all in a white baguette, finished with sliced cucumber, red onion and rocket.

Lastly, The Vegan Hoisin Mushroom Wrap is a twist on the Hoisin Duck Salad Wrap. It features glazed mushrooms coated in hoisin sauce, with cucumber, pickled cabbage & carrot salad, finished with sliced spring onion, coriander and baby leaf spinach.

Speaking about the exciting launch, Pret’s Global Head of Food Innovation, Hannah Dolan, said: "Veggie Pret is a space where we’ve had a great opportunity to experiment with vegan and veggie food. It’s our mission to make it easier for customers to eat less meat, so we challenged ourselves to recreate the delicious flavours and textures of our meaty bestsellers, using only vegan ingredients.

"We’re excited for everyone, (vegans and non-vegans alike), to try The Vegan Classics – and to see if they can tell the difference between the new vegan recipes and the originals!"

The vegan sandwiches come following Pret dropping its autumn menu, which landed in stores on 10 September.

The menu featured 24 new products, including hot food items, tasty new soups and - of course - the pumpkin spice latte.
