If you’re wondering where you need to head next in the UK for the ultimate meal – you might want to consider the Cornish town of Padstow, as Paul Ainsworth who owns multiple restaurants, a hotel and a cookery school there, scooped two major awards at The Cateys last night (2 July).
Celebrating two major wins, Ainsworth scooped up two of the night’s most prestigious accolades - the Chef Award and Independent Restaurateur of the Year.
Ainsworth, and his wife Emma, own Paul Ainsworth at No. 6, Rojano’s in the Square and the Mariners, located across the camel estuary in Rock.
“It is such an honour to be recognised by The Caterer and the panel of judges,” he told Good Housekeeping.
“I’m so thrilled to receive these two awards.”
And Ainsworth was in good company. Shaun Hill won a Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding work at the Michelin-starred Walnut Tree in Abergavenny, while Francis Mallman, one of South America’s most prestigious chefs, won the International Outstanding Achievement Award.
And if it’s hotels you’re after, look no further than The Ned in London, which one Group Hotel of the Year, while Rudding Park in Harrogate was awarded best Independent Hotel of the Year.
Ainsworth wasn’t the only person to win two awards, Sally Beck, the general manager at the Royal Lancaster London won Manager of the Year and the Accessibility Award.
The award ceremony was held at Grosvenor House Hotel, hosted by Countdown's Rachel Riley, welcoming 1200 leading figures in the industry.
