Tuesday evening's (March 26) edition of The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer witnessed some truly strange creations in the tent, with comedian Joe Wilkinson baking a collection of gherkin-inspired biscuits.
University Challenge host Jeremy Paxman, former Coronation Street actress Sally Lindsay and reality TV star Georgia Toffolo made up the rest of tonight's celeb line-up, and Jeremy even opened the show with a GBBO-themed quiz round in the vein of his famous BBC series.
The team scored 0, in case you were wondering.
The celebs' Signature task was to bake 18 identical biscuits in the shape of something personal to them – which, as previously mentioned, garnered some very creative results.
Manchester native Sally went for honey-flavoured 'worker bee' biscuits in homage to her home city; Georgia chose 'cheesy yeast extract' biscuits in the shape of champagne bottles; Jeremy brought a slice of home to the show as he baked ginger biscuits inspired by his pet dog Derek; and 8 Out of 10 Cats regular panelist Joe shocked us all with minty gherkin-shaped creations.
During the opening round, Jeremy had some trouble remembering how long his biscuits had been in the oven, while Bake Off co-presenter Noel Fielding amused Sally with an anecdote about the time a bumblebee "followed" him down the street one day, "like we were on a date".
Paul Hollywood was later blown away by Joe's bright green biscuits, admitting that he loved how all of their ingredients complemented each other.
Then came the dreaded Technical stage, which tonight saw the bakers fashion chocolate crumpets. Yes, you read that correctly, chocolate crumpets. Covered in rich black cherry jam, no less.
But even these wonderful celebs are mere mortals deep down, and they shared a collective state of confusion over their task at hand.
Although none of the finished articles were anything to shout about (apart from one of Joe's crumpets which was 99% perfect, according to Paul), the judges still had to pick a winner.
Sally placed last, Jeremy was awarded third-best, former I'm a Celebrity Queen of the Jungle Georgia came a close second and Joe took home the top prize.
Which brings us to the final Showstopper round, where the participants offered their own unique visions of a 'hobby cake'.
Georgia brought her party personality into the mix with a (rather messy) recreation of a nightclub scene, and said the only music played by the DJ was ABBA.
Joe went for a cheeky chocolate orange-flavoured beast in the shape of his own buttocks – titled 'Rear of the Year' with an added gherkin tattoo on one of the cheeks for good measure. Jeremy honoured judge Prue Leith for their shared love of fishing, with a lemon drizzle cake characterised by a three-tiered angling scene.
Meanwhile, soap star Sally threw her Suffragette love into her creation with another three-piece cake covered in the women's movement's colours and emblem.
Ultimately, this week's Celebrity Bake Off was kind of a foregone conclusion, with Joe's mastery of baking quite impressive. He walked away with the chef's apron and Star Baker title.
The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer continues next Tuesday (April 2) at 8pm on Channel 4.
