The high street jewellery we wear to feel like billionaires – from £18
These if-you-know-you-know jewellery pieces will luxe up your style in an instant
I love jewellery. If I could, I’d own a stack of Cartier Love bracelets, have Elsa Peretti’s Tiffany Bone Cuff clamped to my wrist 24/7 and rotate my collection of Bottega Veneta earrings depending on my mood. In reality, I have one pair of Bottega twisted hoops; the gold plating’s worn off, but they still work. For a recent big birthday, my closest friends clubbed together to start a Cartier Love bangle fund and now I do have one clamped to my wrist 24/7.
I’m telling you this because though my taste leans to high-luxury classics, my budget mostly doesn’t. To compensate, I’ve developed an eye for spotting jewellery pieces that look 30 times their actual price tag and I honestly don’t think there has ever been a better time to find them than now.
Which brings me to this edit. Of course, the trick is to choose items with weight, a considered shape and, if gold is your thing, make sure it doesn’t look too shiny and fake.
My first recommendation is the new collaboration between jeweller Rachel Jackson and the broadcaster and all round brilliant human, Clara Amfo in aid of the charity Choose Love. They have created a sun motif necklace centered with a hand-carved citrine gemstone, with 'Choose Love' engraved on the back. It gives high luxury vibes at an approachable £85, and profits go straight to the charity.
If you're after dupes, John Lewis & Partners gold cuff successfully gives Elsa Peretti at Tiffany energy for £30, while Abbot Lyon’s bangle owes its entire aesthetic to Van Cleef & Arpels iconic Alhambra range of four leaf clover designs. Both Anthropolgie and Oliver Bonas do very good Bottega Veneta-alike teardrop earrings and you can choose between gold and silver.
Outside the dupes, Cos is worth a look for modern pearl and gold pieces, and Sézane's chunky gold chains, sculptural raffia earrings and gold hoops are flamboyant, expensive looking and could have come straight from a dusty vintage designer boutique in Paris. If your fantasy is to be dripping in diamonds, Pandora and Swarovski’s diamond tennis bracelets inspire ‘are they, aren’t they?’ second glances. This, by the way, is exactly when to channel your inner billionaire - if asked, you say ‘of course they’re diamonds’.
You might as well go all in.
