8 Best Jumpsuits & Boilersuits

A utility jumpsuit is the ultimate transitional hero, an effortless outfit that’s as comfy as it is cool and easier to wear than you think, says fashion director Amanda Marcantonio.

Okay, so they’re a bit of a ‘faff’ (stripping off when nature calls isn’t ideal), but why should taking a few extra minutes in the bathroom be a reason to bypass this effortlessly cool wardrobe staple?

Beloved by Anneka Rice and car mechanics, it’s the throw-on-and-go utility jumpsuit (aka the boilersuit) that I’m currently obsessed with. I won’t go as far to say it should replace your midi dress – never that – but for those who, like me, appreciate an easy, everyday trouser look that requires minimal effort, or for those who are bored of their usual ‘jumper and jeans’ combo, the utility jumpsuit is worth a try. Women often think boilersuits will highlight their tummy or make them look dumpy but, actually, utility jumpsuits can be incredibly flattering as they’re often made from sturdier, thicker fabrics such denim or cargo, which help to smooth lumps and bumps, giving you a streamlined silhouette.

Remember, dresses needn’t be your default – a utility jumpsuit can be the secret weapon in your everyday wardrobe. Even though they’re casual by nature, they can look incredibly chic – think of them like a matching top and trousers co-ord, just stitched together.

Here at Good Housekeeping, we’ve rounded up the best, most flattering styles on the high street. Wear with loafers, ballet pumps, trainers, chunky sandals and ankle boots… Ladies, it’s time to step out of your comfort zone and into a boilersuit.

The key to finding your perfect style is to choose one that’s similar to the shape of your jeans. So, if you prefer wide-leg or baggy boyfriend jeans, seek out roomier jumpsuits. If you prefer skinny jeans, go for a slim-fit leg jumpsuit.
