Sustainability is the new buzz word in fashion, and you don't have to compromise on style or break the bank to update your wardrobe with ethically made clothes. M&S have been debunking the myth that you have to pay more for eco fashion for years, it's in the company's DNA across all categories. Other well-known brands have created diffusion lines such as Sezane's Committed and H&M's Conscious collection, but here are some labels that you may not have heard of but should be on your radar this year.

Ninety Percent reinvests 90% of its profits into charities and the people who make the clothes, Hotel Vetements work with recovered vintage fabrics to make perfectly imperfect jackets and tops. Everlane, (based in the US but ships worldwide) offers minimal, simple basics, as well as a transparent supply chain and pricing strategy for every garment they sell.

Embracing sustainability doesn't mean you can't continue to enjoy your favourite pieces from the past, wherever they're from. Keep and care for the pieces you wear year after year, or swap and share with friends and family and have fun with 'slow' fashion. But if you want something new this season, here are our top picks...
