If you're wondering what is changing and shifting in fashion as we move towards autumn, let me direct you to one key jacket shape you're soon going to see everywhere, the short swing jacket. First out of the blocks with this shape for the new season is Uniqlo.
Think of their short zip-up jacket as a move on from last winter's popular barn jacket. It's in the same oversized shape, but rather than ending at the hips, this version is cropped to sit just below the waistband of your favourite jeans, trousers or skirt. This cut means you can wear a fitted top underneath, and create a flattering look that allows you to both throw the jacket on top, and still share showcase the underneath.
Uniqlo’s cropped jacket comes in five colours: black, creamy white, beige, khaki and denim, has two front and two side pockets and has a darker hued contrast corduroy collar, and roll-up matching cord cuffs.
My personal favourite shade is the biscuit-y beige version which will go with the most things in my wardrobe, and, sidenote, is also the first colour to show up as selling out in certain sizes but honestly, each colour is so considered, its impossible to go wrong whichever shade you choose.
The versatility of this jacket allows you to style it in so many different ways - during August I’d style it with a maxi skirt and vest, and as the temperatures begin to drop I’d wear it with a slouchy t-shirt, jeans and trainers for a casual look, or high-waist jeans or tailored trousers with a tucked in shirt.
Personally, I’d opt for one or two sizes bigger than my actual size for an even more oversized look, but that’s just my personal preference. The online reviews suggest it comes true to size, which is handy to know if you don’t have a Uniqlo store near you and have to order online.
Uniqlo, you’ve done it again.
