If ever there were a woman to make you want to fling open the doors to spring – arms outstretched, face to the sky, a kooky little kick in your step – it would be Parker Posey. The 56-year-old indie film darling and all-round style icon (currently delivering a deliciously unhinged performance as Victoria Ratliff in The White Lotus) has burst on to our screens in a new Gap campaign, reminding us of the joy of dancing and, crucially, a good trench coat.
With her own personal dance troupe in tow, Posey – who dreamt of becoming a dancer before her acting career kicked off with the film Party Girl in 1995 – expertly shimmies and twirls across the screen in a swingy Gap trench and wide-leg trousers, radiating the kind of playfulness she’s owned throughout her career. If anyone could make us want to step into spring with a useful wardrobe update, it’s her.
But let’s talk about that trench coat. It has that perfect in-between-seasons magic: lightweight and loose, yet with a belt and deep pockets for when a cover-up is required, and as Posey demonstrates, it looks even better when it moves.
Oh, and let’s not forget the trousers. Excellently wide-legged, 100% cotton and available in tan as well as a spot-on shade of navy, they’re the kind of polished addition that will give the T-shirts and knits you already own a new way to shine. They’ll also look excellent with the slimline sneakers of the moment.
With Zac Posen now at the helm of Gap, there’s a fresh energy at play in their collections, and we’re keeping a close eye on what’s next so we can share that with you. But for now, if you’ve ever wanted to channel a bit of Parker Posey’s kinetic cool, take this as your chance – something tells us this coat won’t be hanging around for long.
