Today, George at Asda has launched its collaboration with womenswear designer Roksanda and the British Fashion Council with an official capsule collection to mark the 40th year of London Fashion Week. I’m particularly excited as Roksanda Ilinčić is one my all-time favourite designers. Why? She designs for the minimalist who wants to stand out (that’s me).
Minimalists are often misjudged. People wrongly assume we only wear very plain, monochrome clothes (read boring). But I very much disagree. I may not like florals and froufrou, but I still want to stand out. I love colour and I love simple but interesting silhouettes, which is why I love Roksanda. Her renowned graphic designs are pared-back and demure, yet feature offbeat colour combinations that are just exquisite.
I splashed out on Roksanda dress for my youngest daughter’s christening last year. I felt amazing in it, and the beauty of a simple but statement dress is that it’s utterly timeless, unlike prints and patterns, which can often date (very quickly). But it was a treat for a special occasion as, like most people, I can’t afford Roksanda’s regular runway collection for my daily dressing – which is why I’m slightly giddy over her collaboration with George at Asda. It’s more casual than her main line, but still in the same refined and distinctive colour palette.
The collection comprises 30 pieces of womenswear, including sweaters, fleeces and puffers in the designer’s signature colour-block detailing, with budget-friendly prices starting at £14 (the most expensive item, a trench coat, is £60). This collection definitely has a modern athleisure vibe (yes, please!) combined with an everyday elegance (double yes, please!). If I had to pick one item that’s my absolute favourite, I’d say the navy and orange jersey maxi dress, which will appeal even to the colour-averse (it’s also available in a fabulous burgundy and cobalt colourway).
The George at Asda x Roksanda collection is officially available from today (17 September), both online and in selected stores. I’ve selected my favourite pieces below – but you’ll want to act fast, as sizes are already flying out of stock. Looks like our autumn wardrobes are about to get a major upgrade…
