The unexpected trend for late summer that’s sweeping the red carpet? Metallics, of course. While you might still be getting your head around the outgoing ‘Brat summer’ trend (prompted by Charli XCX’s album release – think neon green!), there’s been a classic palette popping back up at star-studded premieres in the past week that feels much more grown-up: metallics.
We’ve seen stylish looks in a versatile array of shades – gold, silver, bronze, Champagne, even shimmering browns – which means there should be a tone to suit just about everybody.
Blonde celebs with cooler undertones, including Saoirse Ronan and Elizabeth Banks, opted for punchy silver dresses laden with beads, sequins and embellishments.
Modern Family’s Sofía Vergara, on the other hand, opted for a stunning Champagne ensemble, while Citadel’s Priyanka Chopra chose a sultry sheer look with black lace overlain in gold, which worked perfectly with her warm complexion.
Model and America’s Got Talent judge Heidi Klum and Crazy Rich Asians star Awkwafina both went for bold gold looks but in very different styles. Heidi’s fitted bodice-style dress featured an almost matte metallic finish (think crinkled and then flattened tin foil – but chic!), while Awkwafina went full throttle on sequins with her long-sleeve gold midi dress.
