Nicole Kidman has retained style icon status through the many years of her career, and showed no signs of letting the title slip as she took to the red carpet for her most recent movie premiere on Thursday (13 June).

The star took to the red carpet in Los Angeles for the screening of her Netflix film, A Family Affair, and looked stunning in a nude maxi dress with a corset style bodice.

The fitted dress matched her skin tone almost perfectly, and featured a draped necktie to add a touch of old school glamour to the back of her look.

Once inside the venue, however, Nicole transformed the outfit with one simple addition - a silky tuxedo jacket over the top. The nude tone of her dress created an illusion, making it look as though she was wearing solely the long-line blazer - a clever twist on the recent sheer trend which has been sweeping the red carpet.

Nicole added a black tuxedo jacket once inside the venue and sat with her co-star Zac Efron.

Nicole's timeless tuxedo-inspired look is a style which never goes out of fashion, and her example is a lesson in one of the easiest ways to change up a look. A blazer is the ideal way to add a pop of colour to an otherwise muted ensemble, take your outfit from day to night, or to make an look feel instantly more formal for a special event.

As Nicole demonstrated, it can also give the impression of an outfit change, and refresh your style for different parts of the evening.

The Hollywood star attended the red carpet event with the rest of her A Family Affair cast, which included co-star Zac Efron, who plays Nicole's love interest in the new movie. The pair were reunited for the film, having previously starred together in the 2012 picture The Paperboy.
