But if you're begrudgingly forking out money for a festive sweater for yet another Christmas party, have you considered renting one?

Well, we might have just find the solution for you. For the first time this year, Lidl is doing just that, pairing up with peer-to-peer fashion rental app By Rotation, by offering its range of Christmas jumpers for £2 a day. Whilst the designs are certainly not for everyone and you might be seeking a less garish option... you can't deny it's quite a genius idea.

The sell-out Lidl slogan 'ugly' jumper has made a return this year (one was sold every 2 seconds last year), alongside three new designs that the budget retailer has worked with slow-fashion specialist Lydia Bolton to create - all made from upcycled textiles.

First we have the (Mariah) Carey, a 90s inspired, off-the-shoulder cut number complete with big bows. Or you might be after the Lewis - inspired by Leona complete with gold, glitz and lots of tassels, then finally the (Elton) John - a blue turtleneck number with festive frills, sequins and stars.

"With Christmas being one of the top occasions of the year when the demand for purchasing single-wear outfits skyrockets, renting a festive jumper for your holiday season plans is a great way to leave a positive impact on the planet and also save money," says Eshita Kabra, Founder & CEO of By Rotation.

Lidl’s Christmas jumper collection is available for hire on By Rotation from 23rd Nov - 31st December, starting from £2 with all profits going to the NSPCC.
