Princess Anne officially opened a D-Day landing craft during a visit to a Portsmouth museum yesterday (21 April).
The Princess Royal visited the only surviving land craft (the LCT 7074 tank) from the D-Day Operation Neptune during World War II.
The historic craft is now on display at the D-Day Story museum in Southsea, Portsmouth and Princess Anne was in attendance to officially open the exhibit.
It has been a long process to bring the landing craft to where it is today, as it had to be dredged from the River Mersey in Merseyside before undergoing years of restoration.
Referencing the hard work which has gone into the process, Princess Anne said in a speech during the event, “nothing about this project has been straight forward…so this has been no mean achievement in every way.”
She added that, due to the popularity of the vessel with visitors already, she hoped the tank was, “well on its way to becoming an additional landmark here in Portsmouth.”
Princess Anne looked sophisticated in a pair of chic cream trousers and a short, double breasted coat in navy for the event. Simple stud earrings and a neckerchief finished the look, while a sweep of red lipstick matched the hint of a scarf seen beneath her coat.

While Princess Anne was in Portsmouth yesterday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were also on an official visit. Prince William and Kate met with organisations in London working to support the crisis in Ukraine.
The day was also significant as it marked the Queen’s 96th birthday. The Royal Family revealed a brand new official portrait of the Queen taken to commemorate the day, as well as sharing sweet childhood photographs of Her Majesty, at a time when the then Princess Elizabeth was never expected to become Queen.
Tributes from the public flooded in, as did those from other members of the Royal Family including from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Eugenie and Prince Charles.
