The Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the National Portrait Gallery in London on Friday (7 May) to mark the release of her new photography book, Hold Still.

The book was made in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery, of which Kate is a patron. It contains the finalist pictures from the 'Hold Still' photography competition that Kate launched last year, asking members of the public to submit photographic portraits taken during the first national lockdown. The project's aim was to create a unique record of the UK's shared and personal experiences during this unprecedented time.

The book, which was already charting as a bestseller on launch day, includes the 100 finalist pictures that were chosen out of 31,000 entries. Funds from the sales will go to both the National Portrait Gallery itself and to the mental health charity Mind.

Kate visited the National Portrait Gallery on the launch day of her book in order to meet some of the finalists whose pictures are featured. During her appearance, she also spent time exploring the gallery's Archive.

The duchess made a statement in a red tailored coat, thought to be a bespoke piece by the brand Eponine.

She completed her look with a tan handbag called The Nano Montreal from luxury brand Demellier, which costs £295, as well as a coordinating pair of tan heels. Kate's hair was worn in her signature wavy blow dry.

Earlier on Thursday, Kate was shown hiding a special copy of her Hold Still book outside of Kensington Palace, after teaming up with Book Fairies - a worldwide organisation that sees volunteers hide books for people to find, read and then leave out for someone else.

The copy contained a letter from Kate herself, and was one of many hidden around the UK on Hold Still's release day.
