The Duchess of Cambridge wowed onlookers by wearing a chic semi-sheer black lace dress for her latest public appearance.

On Monday evening (18 November), the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were seen arriving at the Royal Variety Performance at the Palladium Theatre, London.

Stepping out of a black car with her husband, Kate looked effortlessly beautiful in a long-sleeved black gown – thought to be designed by Alexander McQueen's creative director Sarah Burton – which features a semi sheer lace floral-embellished layer over the top of a nude-coloured dress.

The royal styled the floor-length gown with her hair in loose curls, a pair of hooped pearl drop earrings, a black clutch bag and black pointed heels.

The look was very different to the royal's outfit in 2017. The Duchess of Cambridge, who was then pregnant with the couple's third child Prince Louis, wore a sparkling pale blue gown by Jenny Packham, with a sheer overlay embellished with hundreds of shimmering crystals, stars and flowers.

She teamed the look with a pair of glittering Oscar de la Renta heels.

Earlier in the day, the couple shared a series of throwback images to celebrate the performance in London and mark their third appearance at the event, having previously attended in 2014 and 2017.

Taking to the Kensington Royal Instagram account, the pair posted four photos including a black and white photograph of the Queen arriving for the show in 1952, with the Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Margaret.

The annual performance takes place in aid of the Royal Variety Charity, formally known as The Entertainment Artistes’ Benevolent Fund, of which The Queen is Patron. The money raised from the show goes to help entertainers throughout the UK, who need help and assistance as a result of old age, ill-health, or hard times.

Hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, the royals were treated to performances from the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Mabel, Robbie Williams and Emeli Sandé and Manchester’s Bee Vocal choir.
