• The Duchess of Cambridge attended a photography workshop hosted by The Royal Photographic Society, her new royal patronage announced today.
  • She wore a printed sun dress and lace-up espadrilles to the event.

The Duchess of Cambridge is now the royal patron of The Royal Photographic Society, and she made her new gig official today with a visit to a photography workshop co-hosted by the institution. Kate's new role, which was previously held by the Queen for over 60 years, was announced earlier this morning by Kensington Palace.

Duchess Kate arrived to the workshop in Kingston, England wearing a printed sun dress and tan lace-up espadrilles―a perfect summer combo.

The workshop was run in partnership with another one of Kate's patronages, Action for Children, a charity that supports disadvantaged young people through fostering and adoption. The event aimed to "highlight how photography provides a universal language for young people to express themselves and release their thoughts and feelings," according to a release from the palace.

This new patronage is on-brand for Kate, who is known to be an art lover and avid photographer. She majored in art history in college and went on to be a royal patron of the National Portrait Gallery and the first royal patron of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. She's also hands-on with her love of photos, as she takes the official royal portraits of her children.

"It is a huge honor to have The Duchess as our Patron, especially given her personal interest in photography," the Royal Photographic Society's COO, Mike Taylor, said in a statement. "We know that photography and creative pursuits have such a positive impact for people of all ages, and we are excited to be working with one of the duchess’s charities in support of their work."
