These raincoats will have you dancing in the rain
It’s that time of year again, when the days get shorter, the leaves begin to fall and, as always, the weather becomes increasingly unpredictable. There’s something truly humbling about confidently stepping out under clear morning skies, only to be soaked through by lunchtime because your coat didn’t make the waterproof cut. But we here at GH have a sartorial solution.
Our motto? While you can’t control the weather, you can be prepared for it. Enter: the raincoat. A shower-proof outerwear staple that’s not only practical but stylish, too, even if it doesn’t hold the same fashion pedigree as, say, a classic trench coat. The best part? You’ll still be wearing it well into the new year (hello, spring drizzle).
One of our favourites? The classic raincoat from Rains, available at Whistles. Considerably constructed yet lightweight, it’s easy and comfortable to wear. The waterproof design comes in a deep forest autumnal green, and is also available in black, navy and camel for those who prefer a more neutral palette.
Equally reliable is Seasalt’s Seafaring waterproof coat, complete with an adjustable fishtail hem for a customisable fit. Lululemon’s beige coat also deserves an honourable mention, courtesy of its ultra-practical design and dual-entry pockets that make for easy access and added storage.
Elsewhere, the M&S cape coat proves itself a standout. It cleverly combines three outerwear staples in one: the raincoat, the cape and the barn jacket, thanks in part to its stylish brown cord collar. I predict a sell-out, as it’s part of the M&S new-in section, which I have on good authority is always full of future bestsellers.
And for those who love a pattern, Joules has your back. Their longline raincoat in classic tartan is detailed with gold buttons for a polished, sophisticated finish. Boden’s colour-block rain mac is also a great choice, with its bright red pockets adding a welcome pop of colour to any rainy day rotation. A drizzly outdoor walk has never sounded so good.
Or, if you prefer something cropped, your best bets are House of Sunny's waxed rain jacket or Barbour’s Elaine showerproof jacket in signature green tartan with patchwork detailing. A little pricier, yes, but that comes with no compromise on quality.
But, there’s plenty more where that came from.
