Davina McCall revealed her favourite winter wardrobe staple and her top styling tips, during an event yesterday evening (10 November), at the Tate Modern in London.

Davina joined fellow brand ambassador Amanda Holden in conversation for a brand event with JD Williams, of which the pair are brand ambassadors.

Speaking to Konnie Huq, Davina discussed all things fashion, saying women should take the so-called style rules and “tear them into pieces.”

The presenter explained that she felt that getting older and going through the menopause is far from the “autumn of your life” but in fact a “second spring” and said, “In my 50s, I feel like I’ve become much bolder in my choices of clothing.”

Davina said she no longer worried about what people thought about her as much as she had when she was younger, and encouraged women to embrace clothes without worrying about fashion rules or age restrictions.

For winter, Davina revealed her go-to staple is a classic polo neck, saying, “I’m obsessed with polo neck jumpers I think polo neck jumpers are so chic.”

She also added that the jumpers can be flattering for anyone conscious about their neck area and said they were ideal for layering, which she believes is key for winter.

“Layers, lots of layers,” she said. “A polo neck under a blazer looks fantastic. Polo neck, blazer then coat. Amanda (Holden) does this, she puts her coat over her shoulders and doesn’t put her arms in. Don’t tell her I got it from her!”

She also revealed that another staple of her winter wardrobe is a large pair of dark sunglasses.

“And again, polo neck and huge sunglasses – yes!” she said.

For the bottom half, Davina recommends a good pair of leggings, saying they were one of the hardest working staples of a wardrobe, thanks to their multitude of uses and comfort factor.

“Day time, night time you can dress them up, dress them down. Add a polo neck and a blazer and Bob’s your uncle. Chic,” she said.

Davina recommended the "treggings" she was wearing on stage in particular, which are by JD Williams; “I love these leggings, they’re so stretchy.”

For the event, Davina wore a stunning silver blazer over the leggings, along with flat ankle boots.

However, when Connie Huq asked which item of clothing made her feel most confident, Davina said, “Underwear. I’m obsessed with underwear. I’m half French and I only ever wear matching underwear.’

Crucially, Davina said she wears her favourite matching underwear sets only for herself, not anyone else, and that it helps her feel confident during big meetings or events.
