The Duchess of York has opened up about the special reason she decided to wear green to Princess Eugenie's royal wedding to Jack Brooksbank back in October.
Sarah Ferguson opted for an emerald dress by Ascot-based designer Emma Louise Design as her mother of the bride outfit, completed with a matching gold and green hat by milliner Jess Collett.
It was previously revealed that Sarah completed her outfit by carrying the vintage Manolo Blahnik bag that her own mother, Susan Barrantes, wore at her own royal wedding to Prince wedding.
Now, opening up about her mother of the bride outfit in an interview with the Daily Mail, the 59-year-old explained that there was a special reason why she selected the colour green for her dress – and, again, it served as a subtle tribute to her own 1986 wedding.
She said: "Mum had carried the handbag at my wedding to Prince Andrew and the admission tickets were still in it.
"They were green — which was why I wore green on the day."
Discussing Eugenie's wedding day, Sarah also revealed just how proud she felt of her youngest daughter for choosing a bridal gown that displayed the scars from her scoliosis surgery.
"My proudest moment was watching Eugenie standing tall, very proud to show her scoliosis scar in her low-backed dress," the duchess added. "I’d gone to all the fittings and sat there beaming with delight, and because there was no veil it was a very strong statement."
Sarah added of the young couple: "She [Eugenie] and Jack are just meant to be. He adores her, and now I’ve got a son."
